With heavy rains and flooding conditions in Missouri, one Ford dealership quickly found themselves under water, however the actions on the part of their community are the kind, which restore faith in humanity.

During the evening of December 26, heavy rains caused flooding in Republic Missouri, which included Republic Ford. By around 6 or 7 p.m., the front of dealership lot, which is reportedly set much lower than the back, found itself in the path of a quickly rising flood. As the rains came down, vehicles were suddenly at risk of extreme damage. As the dealership staff worked to move vehicles to a safer area as fast as possible, the community joined in to lend a hand.

Speaking to TorqueNews, Jim Pettyjohn, the advertising director at Republic Ford said, “The rain started Saturday evening almost immediately. We saw water starting to accumulate within an hour between 6 and 7 p.m. We have a low front in the lot and the photos surfacing online show that area. About 20-25 people, who were driving by, stopped to help us move cars and as a result of that we were able to move 2/3 of cars to a safe place. The lot is much higher in the back of the dealership. By 7 p.m. it was worst and by 11 p.m. it was back down. In 3 hours it went from run of water to that kind of disastrous depths and then it was gone.” TorqueNews also reported 105 vehicles could not be saved and were totaled. The dealership building was not damaged.

We normally highlight dealers doing good, however, it’s noteworthy that citizens of Republic, Missouri took the reins this time and did some good for a local dealer. Have you every had your community rally behind your store amid a natural disaster? What can this dealership do in the coming weeks to reach out and support the community which stood behind them when they needed a hand?
