60 Year Employee Given Truck | DrivingSales News

Dealership Gives Truck To Employee For 60 Years Of Service

September 29, 2015 0 Comments

You may have a number of employees who have stuck around your store for many years, however what about 60? An Alabama man currently working at a dealership has stayed on at that same store since 1955. His loyalty is being rewarded.

King Kindred is 79-years-old and for the last 60 years has worked for the same dealership. Many longtime employees get a sending off party, however Kindred, got something even better, a new truck. The Hendrick Hoover auto mall in Hoover, Alabama presented Kindred with a 2015 Chevy Colorado as send-off into retirement.

Kindred began his career in retail automotive at the age of 19 back in 1955. Kindred’s first job was washing vehicles at the Don Drennen Motor Company. After eight years on the job, Kindred was promoted to the service department. During his tenure with the dealership, Kindred has worked in many capacities including wrecker truck driver and new vehicle service manager. He stuck with his place of employment when it was moved from Birmingham to Hoover in 1972 and when Drennen sold it to the Hendrick Auto Group four years ago. Most recently, Kindred comes into the store and makes coffee; orders office supplies and replaces light bulbs. He’s working part-time, about 35 hours per week.

At a ceremony celebrating his 60 years of service Kindred said with a smile, “I appreciate you giving me this truck. It will be well driven, well driven! According to a report in the Hoover Sun, Kindred was asked why he worked for the same story for so long. He said simply, “They don’t push me to do my job because I was going to do it anyway.”

Mr. Kindred has been on the cusp of retirement twice. The dealership already sent him and his family to Hawaii once and gave him a watch another time. He will reportedly work at least another year. Do you know of anyone who has worked at the same store for 60 plus years? What do you think of the tale of King Kindred, 79, a man who has spent his entire adult life working at the same dealership?
