Dealership Staff Buys Vehicle For Family Of Girl Fighting Cancer

October 26, 2015 2 Comments

An Indiana dealership reached out to a family whose young daughter is fighting cancer. The store experienced a team effort of compassion and gave a gift the family will likely be talking about for years to come.

Gurley Leep Ford in South Bend, Indiana gave the gift of transportation to a family in need. The Riddle family applied for financing at the dealership and couldn’t qualify. Autumn Riddle, the family’s three-year-old girl is in stage-four leukemia and the family is facing tough times. The Riddle family came to the Ford store seeking reliable transportation as their previous car has been breaking down.

What occurred wasn’t a matter of the dealership using official funds to buy a car for the Riddle family; instead it was the employees who made it happen. WSBT 22 reported that dealership managers at Gurley Leep Ford put their own money together and bought the family the vehicle that they couldn’t qualify to purchase. As WSBT reported, the dealership called the family and they thought perhaps they’d qualified to purchase the vehicle, however they reportedly were very surprised to hear about free vehicle coming their way, courtesy of dealership staff.

Ed Riddle, Autumn’s father told WSBT, “The general manager says, you like this car, yes, it’s yours. We know your situation. You need to have a car and we’re just taken back, like is this really happening. I mean it was. Autumn was giving everybody high-fives and my wife was thrilled I was thrilled we got teary-eyed it was just a wonderful day. Good things do happen.”

Scott Pharr, the GM at Gurley Leep Ford, explained to WSBT this was the right move to make. Speaking to the local CBS news affiliate about the gift Pharr said, ” They said they hadn’t received a break in a long time so really and truly that’s what they deserved was a break and it was just the right thing to do.”

To review, managers used their own money to buy a car for this family in a very difficult situation. What do you think of this charity? Have you ever heard of dealership employees joining together to purchase a vehicle for someone in need?
