Free Tornado Shelter With Car Purchase?

May 20, 2015 0 Comments

Roberts auto center in Pryor, OK is offering their customers something truly unique. New car buyers through the month of May can receive a free storm shelter with purchase of a new vehicle. That purchase incentive includes installation. This promotion comes just weeks after a dealer in Texas generated a lot of press coverage by giving away a gun with the purchase of a new car. This promotion comes in a place where shelters are needed and from employees who have experienced tornadoes.

According to a report in the Pryor Creek Times, GM Seith Knighton and GSM Jake Hudspeth have been through some powerful tornadoes. In 2011, both men were working at a Pryor auto group dealership in Joplin, OK when a large tornado blew through the town leaving a wake a destruction and 161 deaths. In the aftermath of the tornado, the dealership became a supply base for victims of the tragedy. Dealership employees drove food, water and clothing to those impacted in their community by the natural disaster.

How will the community and potential customers view this promotion? There are more tornadoes in Tornado Alley where the Joplin dealer group stores lie, thus consumers in that region could use a place to be safe during a tornado emergency. This deal is also not targeted to a specific group like the $50 gift cards for military and first responders that we told you about earlier this week. After all, when a Tornado strikes, everyone could use shelter. Shelters are also not cheap. The baseline for tornado shelters in Oklahoma seems to start around $2000-$3000 before installation, thus this deal could prove to be quite valuable in terms of savings and piece of mind for the car-shopping consumer.

What do you make of what this dealer is doing in Oklahoma? What do you make of giving away a free Tornado shelter and installation with a new car purchase? Finally, If your store was in Tornado alley would you consider this promotion?
