Is Faraday Future Really Apple? | DrivingSales News

Is Faraday Future A Front For The Apple Car Project?

November 10, 2015 0 Comments

We told you last week about a mysterious electric car company with a billionaire backer. Major news outlets are speculating that this organization is simply a front for a major international company.

Is Apple behind Faraday Future? That’s what many media outlets want to know. Speculation is growing that Faraday future is simply a front for the Apple electric car. The theory is Apple can’t begin development on its secretive electric car project without anyone noticing thus they decided to create Faraday future in order to cover up their work on an electric car.

Could the organizations really match up? Apple is rumored to be working on an electric car due for release in 2020, while Faraday, a company that seemingly came into existence yesterday claims to be on track to produce a seven-vehicle fleet by 2017. For starters having seven different vehicles sounds very unlike Apple. They release iPhones and their S upgrades several months apart. It’s very hard to see Apple releasing a seven-vehicle fleet.

If Apple isn’t the main financial backer to Faraday Future – who is it? Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Nick Sampson, former Tesla employee and current Faraday senior vice president of research and development said the organization prefers to keep its partners “confidential.” As we told you last week, Jia Yueting, a Chinese billionaire, has a financial role in Faraday Future. It’s not confirmed if the main bankroller of Faraday is Yueting alone. Yueting is the chairman of LeTV, a Chinese Netflix-type website. He reportedly sold $1.2 billion worth of company stock in the spring of 2015 and loaned it to LeTV.

Some believe the loan by Yueting to LeTV was to bankroll the Faraday Future electric car project. LeTV is also the company listed on public record as having purchased the current 124,000 square foot facility for Faraday in Gardena, California

Do you think that Apple is operating under the name Faraday Future? Do you think Faraday Future will find success with its plan to unleash a seven-vehicle fleet? Finally, do you foresee this trend of electric vehicle startups having a lasting impact on traditional automakers?
