A man walked into a dealership in Pennsylvania and gave employees and customers quite a scare. Perry Semelsberger, 53, entered Courtesy Motors Dodge Jeep Ram on Aug. 25 carrying approximately $39,000 in cash inside of a plastic bucket and began acting very erratically. Semelsberger reportedly told dealership employees he wanted to purchase a vehicle with some of the cash that he had in the bucket.

Semelsberger then walked over to the children’s part of the waiting room and poured out a container of legos. Next, the man took the bucket of money and poured it on his head. He then began to give money to customers and employees. He also stuffed a wad of money into the cleavage of a woman’s dress. Semelsberger then turned his attention to a vehicle purchase, handing a dealership employee some of the cash. While the employee counted out the money, Semelsberger pulled out a .380 revolver, pointed it at employees and began making threats.

According to the AP, Semelsberger said, “Don’t be shorting me (on the vehicle sale) or I’ll light a fire under your (expletive).” Semelsberger also said that he would blow up and light the building on fire. Reports indicate that Semelsberger appeared to be on drugs or alcohol; however, it’s now believed that he was overdosing on Zoloft, antidepressant medication used to treat mental illness. No one at the dealership was hurt during this incident. Semelsberger is held in the Blair County Prison on charges of “terroristic threats,” reckless endangerment and indecent assault. No motive for the incident has been reported.

There is no doubt scary situtaions for dealership professionals seem to be making headlines on a regular basis. How much time do you spend training for dangerous situations in your store? How do you prepare your staff to handle stressful and hazardous situations?
