Posing As FBI, Teen Steals Car | DrivingSales News

Teen Poses As FBI Agent, Takes Charger From Dealership

June 3, 2015 1 Comment

A 17-year old boy posed as an FBI Agent in order to steal a car from a Chrysler store. The story began when the young man called Cueter Chrysler. The would-be car shopper seemed to have strong credentials; the boy told them that he was a government officer who had been newly transferred to Ann Arbor, MI. The boy further told the dealership that he was in need of a new vehicle and looking for an opportunity to test drive a car. He said that he wanted to test drive a new Dodge Charger.

Widespread reports have indicated that the dealership then delivered the vehicle to where the boy was, however it’s now believed that the boy showed up at the dealership, there was no car delivery. According to reports,  the teenager acted very professionally and looked much older than 17. He furthermore had an airsoft gun holstered on his hip that he told dealership employees was a real gun as part of protocol since he was an FBI agent. This had some credibility, however, since there is an FBI office on Liberty street in Ann Arbor. The dealers did do their due diligence, asking the boy for identification. He couldn’t provide it, however, and proceeded to pocket the keys to the Dodge Charger when a salesman was turned away and simply ran out of the store, jumped into the car and drove away. This 17-year-old boy had used the FBI agent front to steal a car.

The boy headed south on highway 23 for approximately 50 miles until arriving in the Toledo, OH area. It was at this point that he was involved in a collision, which rendered the Dodge Charger unusable. No one was injured in the accident. At the scene of the accident, the 17-year old car thief, refusing to give up the charade, told authorities that he was an FBI agent. The authorities of course, didn’t buy that and arrested the boy on the spot. According to Mlive.com, the boy, who has not been named is being charged with stealing a vehicle, furnishing false information and receiving stolen property. He will appear in juvenile court next week.

What do you make of this potentially very dangerous incident? If someone came into your store claiming to be FBI and requesting a vehicle test-drive what would you do to keep an extra eye on that individual? Finally, have you ever had customers make false identification claims at your store in hopes of taking a vehicle for a test drive?

Perhaps if the dealership had done their “due diligence” instead of doing their “do diligence,” the kid wouldn’t have been able to pull this off.
