Tundra Stolen From Foss Toyota | DrivingSales News

Truck Stolen From Toyota Store Using Simple Lie

July 6, 2015 0 Comments

On Wednesday, July 2nd a man posing as the vehicle owner stole a 2007 Toyota Tundra from Foss Toyota in Casper, WY. The incident occurred when a man, who police describe as having an average build and a red stubble beard, came into the dealership. He claimed that his Gold Tundra was in for service, however, for right now he needed the keys to get to work. There isn’t a lot of info about how the interaction between the service department staff and the man went; but, he got the keys and took the truck by simply lying.

According to a report from the Casper Star-Tribune, the only way that the store knew they had given the wrong man a vehicle was when the real owner of the Tundra called later that day. The truck’s real owner reportedly wanted information about the service being done on his vehicle. Once the dealership put two and two together they realized they’d given a customer’s vehicle to a man who didn’t own it.

The obvious question is, how much identification or proof of identity is needed to pick up a vehicle being taken in for service?

A man bought his truck in for service to a Toyota store. Another man came and claimed that it was his. The dealership staff gave him the keys. The truck is now gone. In your estimation, what went wrong? How do you handle these types of situations at your store? If a vehicle is yet to be serviced and someone comes and wants to take it without paying for anything, what is your policy?
