Nissan Dealer Ad Uses Trump Piñata | DrivingSales News

Donald Trump Piñata Used In Nissan Dealership Commercial

July 27, 2015 5 Comments

Nissan of Van Nuys in Van Nuys, California is using Trump as a focal point for a new ad campaign. Basically, the dealership employees in the Trump commercial are beating on a Donald Trump Piñata. The dealership is catering to a largely Hispanic population as the commercial is entirely in Spanish and only scheduled to air on KWEA-TV, an affiliate station of Telemundo, an NBC Universal-owned Spanish language station.

The Nissan store using the Trump Pinata is certainly taking a position. That position seems to be that Trump is a less-than-favorable character. In the commercial, the Pinata is meant to be a political figure giving a speech saying, “I Am Donald Trumpudo! Which translates roughly out to blubber or thick lipped in Spanish. The commercial shows the beating of the Donald Trump Pinata and indicates in Spanish that, “Here at Nissan Van Nuys the latinos are in charge. We are latinos helping latinos,” among other sales pitches for a new Nissan Altima.

We told you before that a Kia store fought the county to keep up their six American flag banners and was willing to face a $1,000 fine. Their decision to take a position garnered them a lot of consumer support. A dealer in Texas also gained media attention when he decided to give away an AR-15 with a new vehicle purchase. In both cases the dealers created a spike in support and some critique, when they took a position.

This Trumpt Pinata ad has earned Nissan of Van Nuys a lot of backlash on their social media account as well as Nissan’s corporate page. While there is some support for the Trump ad, most individuals are calling for Nissan to make a move to stop the ad from airing.

What do you think of this Nissan store’s decision to air this controversial ad? Is this a simple example of generating a lot of free advertising by creating a fiery ad, or should dealerships stay out of political debates? In Van Nuys Nissan’s shoes, do you keep the ad up and stand by it or cut your losses and take it town after the backlash?

From an advertising prospective – Even bad attention can be good attention.

Personally I could careless about the commercial. Whatever works for them is fine.

Note to Mr.Trump. I am republican. I am a veteran. I have Hispanic and American Indian heritage. My family has served in this country’s military since the revolutionary war.

Mr. Trump insults my heritage and his lineage is less American than mine. Won’t get my vote.

As a long time Southern CA based car guy who has actually worked in Van Nuys, I have a little closer perspective on this than the peanut gallery. Van Nuys is a very ethnically diverse metro car market in the heart of the San Fernando Valley (North Los Angeles). It is heavily Hispanic, Armenian & Middle Eastern. This dealership is trying to sell cars to THEIR TARGET MARKET, not people in the South, the Midwest or the Eastern Seaboard.

Their customers are likely Democrat and probably don’t like Donald Trump, after a number of the comments he’s made insinuating that Latinos are rapists. So, I say, this is a smart ad campaign for this dealer and I think it’s a great way to drive latino traffic to the store.

SELL CARS, FIRST LESSON NEVER TALK POLITICS WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS.

This is a terrible reflection on their car dealership, the customers, and the employees. Donald Trump is a Respected business man and will be our President in 2016. Nissan should reject their Franchise Agreement.

This Nissan Dealer should stick to selling there very stale lineup of cars instead of resorting to entering the political arena. If they reall had balls they would be burning the confederate flag.I know most consumers will see this as a very foolish add and also a major turnoff to the Nissan Brand.Remember, they are just a franchise and the Manufactuer will probably shut them down after more nissan consumer complaints. When Trump wins the election what then will they resort to. Maybe a transgender pinata??????

    Just a thought
