Acura Collaborates With Social Media Storytellers In 2016 Acura ILX Campaign

In a creative use of social media, Acura has teamed up with five visual storytellers who will create 3D digital flip books that are designed to mimic the Jewel Eye headlights of the 2016 Acura ILX.

The brand worked with marketing solutions company Ignition on this initiative, soliciting the work from Seattle-based graphic design studio Invisible Creature, L.A.-based illustrator Sachin Teng, New York and Sao Paulo-based branding company Vault49, illustrator and colorist Andrew Bannecker and painter and muralist Jeff Soto.

Acura is attempting to create a massive campaign by utilizing the skills and influence of these five partners with the hope that the unique nature of their creations will inspire others to get involved in spreading the word. Starting on May 18, Acura is posting one of the five creations as looping Instagram videos, and the company is inviting people to take screenshots of the loops with the Acura vehicle in view. Users who share the screenshots on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtags #ILX2016 and #SweepsEntry will be entered into a contest, with Acura selecting five winning fans per day and awarding them with a limited edition print from one of the five artists.

This isn’t the first time that Acura has teamed up with artists in a social media campaign. In March, the company collaborated with eight musical artists, with each of them creating a customized music track to align with the 2016 ILX’s eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Acura’s social media campaigns may prove to be very effective in introducing the 2016 Acura ILX, and in particular in reaching coveted Millennial consumers by involving them in the artistry of creating eye-catching screenshots while entering into a contest to win a limited edition print.
