Better be Optimized for Bing: Siri to Default to Bing in iOS7

June 17, 2013 0 Comments

Bing to power Siri search results

Here’s an interesting item that appeared to be get lost in the shuffle at the Apple Developer’s Conference (WWDC): Apple’s new iOS7 fall software update changes the way Siri delivers search results. Bing will be the default search engine serving results to people using Siri for conversational web search queries. Answers and links will come directly from Bing’s search results.

This update will be universal across the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Bing Market Share

Bing continues to improve overall market share, having posted another month of poistive change in April’s core search share report. April was the first month Bing reached 17%+.

Why is this important for dealers?

Dealerships should be watching how much of their traffic is coming from Bing as it continues to increase it’s user base and improve the user experience it provides.

There may be new keyword ranking opportunities for your websites within Bing. Use tools like Google analytics, Google Webmaster Tools and other search management software tools to measure your current rankings within Bing.

Another key element of this change to consider is the social activity Bing drives with it’s connection to Facebook’s social graph. The trend of including more user generated content from our social connections will continue to increase. This activity has already made it’s way into desktop search results and will most likely find a spot within mobile results as well.

This also paves the way for more conversation search behavior involving answering natural language queries and semantic web results. Consider building out your FAQ sections with more of the simple, common questions your customer typically ask, such as “How do I trade-in my use car?” or “How much is a certified pre-owned Lexus?”

Are you watching your traffic and results from Bing? Prepare yourself for the changes happening in front of us now.
