Mechanic in Service Dept. Takes Customer’s Car Home For The Weekend, Puts 300 Miles On It

August 19, 2014 0 Comments

An unsuspecting Audi S4 owner in Calgary, Canada was in for a real surprise when he took his vehicle into Glenmore Audi to be repaired. The Audi owner, Chris Jackson, of Calgary said that he just wanted his GPS fixed and windshield replaced. What he got instead, was a surprise. Jackson forgot something in his car and wanted to retrieve it the next day. He returned to the dealership, but wasn’t granted access to his car. Jackson said that the dealership told him, “It’s OK, just go home, your car’s fine, it’s probably just somewhere on the lot. We can’t find it.” That statement has proven to be false. His car wasn’t at the dealership. It was at home. It wasn’t at Jackson’s home. The S4 was at the home of one of Glenmore’s mechanics.

After a search of the dealership and a two-and-a-half hour ordeal, Jackson was fed up. He called the local police. It was then that someone at the dealership reached out to the mechanics and revealed that Jackson’s vehicle had been taken home for the weekend.

The next move by the dealership was to defend the actions of the mechanic, saying that he needed to drive the vehicle to test out the GPS system. In this case, that testing added up to 300 new miles on the odometer.

As expected, there is backlash on social media against Glenmore Audi. They did respond to one of the comments on their Facebook page saying, “We have taken responsibility for our mistake, apologized to the owners and have worked internally with everyone involved to ensure that this does not happen again.”

For the time being, that’s where the story is. Audi Canada is getting involved by conducting an investigation. If more happens, we will let you know. What could Glenmore do differently, or did they handle the situation well? The answer, as always, is up to you.
