Facebook Drops The 20% Text to Image Rule
As of July 1st Facebook eliminated it’s (ridiculous) “20% Rule” – stating that an image, either inline or a cover photo, can not contain more than 20% text. This has always been a difficult thing to measure as I’m sure most marketers don’t have a handy image-area-text ratio tool handy.
I’ve had many images rejected by Facebook because of this rule. This will make it easier to add images that contain more text for likes, follows, shares and other calls to actions.
The tricky part here is to resist the temptation and simply flood your timeline with text filled images. Be smart about it – this is still all about content. Putting a call to action on a weak image or associate the picture with low value content won’t help your cause.
And that goes double for your cover images. Make them stand out with a strong image rather than trying to jam in a ton of non-essential text.
Think about your content first, then add your text.Â
