Faraday Future Unveils FFZero01 Concept At CES 2016

January 5, 2016 0 Comments

Faraday Future, the mysterious California-based electric vehicle company, finally took the cloak off one of their vehicles with a result you have to see to believe.

Faraday Future unveiled their new concept vehicle at CES in Las Vegas. The FFZero1 looks the part of an energy efficient bat mobile. The all-electric machine reportedly has 1,000 horsepower to go with eye-catching aerodynamics. Four electric motors (one at each wheel) help push the concept car to a reported 0-60 time of less than 3 seconds and a 200 MPH top speed. The EV sports car has one seat in the middle of the cabin, making it very unlikely to go into production.

Faraday is supposed to have a production EV on the road in about two years and chances are, it will look nothing like the FFZero01. The intent of the presentation seems to be a showcase to the world that Faraday is a player in the EV manufacturer space. The great challenge will be what they produce for consumers and how low their price point is. Remember, Faraday Future is the company that spoke of potentially having seven different vehicles either part of their fleet. Would any one of those machines be a high performance EV priced between $80,000-$100,000 like the Tesla Model S? Will Faraday produce a mass-market EV similar to the Tesla Model III and Chevy Bolt? Certainly Faraday will produce something more friendly to those picking up groceries than a supercar concept with about a centimeter of ground clearance.

Faraday is not expected to work with dealers. Like Tesla Motors, Faraday Future is expected to sell the vehicles themselves, albeit in a unique manner. A report from Wired magazine pointed to Faraday offering a car sharing type subscription option, which allows usage of a vehicle instead of outright ownership.

Do you think Faraday will be as successful as Tesla Motors? Do you feel the organization proved they are a player in the EV space by showing off their FFZero01 concept vehicle, or do they first need to put a production machine on the road?
