Kia Ad Campaign: Lebron James Responding To Tweets

December 8, 2015 0 Comments

Kia has released a new commercial, which brings social media and Lebron James together in promotion of one of their sedans.

Kia is launching a marketing campaign involving NBA star Lebron James responding to real tweets. According to a press release, the campaign will run on TV and through digital and social media platforms. The first ad involves Lebron responding to claims he doesn’t drive a Kia.

James tweeted in 2014, “Rolling around in my K900. Love this car!!” James went on to become the Kia Motors Luxury ambassador in October 2014. Almost instantly, as it often does in today’s world, Twitter lit up with many questioning whether or not James really drives a Kia. After all, the star of the Cleveland Cavs makes $22,970,500 per year before endorsements. Many questioned whether or not Lebron ever drove or would ever drive a Kia. According to a press release, the three tweets being addressed in the ads are:

“I’ll bet anyone $10,000,000 that LeBron doesn’t roll up to the games in a Kia.”

“There’s a thousand percent chance that there’s a zero percent chance that LeBron drives a Kia.”

“LeBron drives a Kia like I fly a spaceship.”

In the first ad, Lebron is challenging the tweet about the $10 million dollar bet by running it though his legal team before getting into a K900 saying he’s on his way to roll up to a game to play ball.

Tim Chaney, vice president of marketing communications for Kia North America, spoke about the campaign in a press release saying, “…LeBron is pushing people to question everything they think they know about our brand, and we could not be more proud of the fact that he can often be seen driving in and around the Cleveland area in a Kia K900.”

We told you previously about FCA using Star Wars themed commercials to promote their vehicles, what to you think of the Lebron James campaign? Do national automaker celebrity marketing campaigns cause a large impact at your store, specifically do your customers tell you about a commercial when they purchase a vehicle?
