Update: Tesla Claims No Wrongdoing In Georgia License Dispute

September 8, 2014 0 Comments

We brought you the story last week about the Georgia Automobile Dealers Association and their dispute with Tesla Motors. They want Tesla to lose their license to sell vehicles in the Peach State. Their reasoning is that Tesla has sold 24 more cars than they are allowed to. The license that Tesla has in Georgia allows them to sell no more than 150 cars per year. They sold 174 during less than a year period and the GADA has filed a petition with the State Department of Revenue asking for the revocation of their license.

Last week, Derrick Dickey spokesman for the GADA said, “Georgia must maintain the integrity of the proven current system which is supported by dealers and manufacturers. Local franchises ensure important consumer protections and provide the competition that drives down prices.”

Tesla’s Vice President of Communications and Marketing Simon Sporule, spoke out about the accusation that Tesla has broken any laws. He said that, “Tesla has been and remains in full compliance with all Georgia laws in the opening and operation of its retail operations in that state.” For the time being this is a he said, she said situation. Who is right and wrong will likely be sorted out in the coming weeks. However, one thing cannot be ignored: Tesla is rising. Today, Elon Musk told reporters that, “If you look out maybe two or three years from now, I would not be surprised if there was a significant deal with Toyota and Tesla.” Musk was talking about a deal with Toyota while in Tokyo. Earlier today, stock analysts with FBN securities predicted that Tesla’s stock is headed for $325 a share. There is certainly a lot going well right now for the California-based electric car company.

We will keep you up to date on what happens with Tesla Motors in Georgia and across the nation in the coming days and weeks. Be sure to stay tuned to DrivingSales News for the latest information.
