Finance Manager Steals Customer Credit Card Info, Spends $51,000

September 14, 2015 2 Comments

A finance manager from an FCA dealership stole credit card information and used it to buy expensive items at a local mall and dealership customers are being told to check their credit card statements.

Osvaldo Batista, 39, the former finance manager at Kendall Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram has been arrested for stealing customer credit card information and making $51,284.11 worth of purchases at the local mall. Batista was arrested Sept. 10, and fired on the spot from his position at the FCA dealership. His manager told Local 10 news he was very surprised by the crime.

Hector Collado, Kendall Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram general manager told News 10, “I had no idea what it was about when they took him away until this morning. This morning I was absolutely shocked.” Collado went on to point out Batista made good money and was doing well, implying that he certainly didn’t seem to be hurting for cash and needing to steal to cover basic needs.

The theft Batista carried out involved using credit card numbers to complete 25 different transactions of $51,000 worth of items from Saks Fifth Avenue at Dadeland Mall in Miami, Florida. Saks Fifth Avenue carries high-end brands such as Gucci, Prada and BVLGARI. Batista called the store in order to purchase the items over the phone with stolen credit card information. When detectives searched Batista’s house after his arrest $5,000 worth of new merchandise was found. According to News 10, Batista is being charged with white collar crime, identity fraud, organized fraud and credit card fraud.

The GM of this store also told the local news he has 101 employees, he wants them all to be perfect and when something like the fraud on the part of Batista happens, it’s not good for anybody. In this GM’s shoes, how would you handle the situation? Besides firing the employee who ripped off customers, what else can Collado do to move on from the situation and help customers trust his store with their financial information?

being a customer of the dealership and he was their responsibility, they should pay back the consumer for the amounts charged.

It may help to show the real spirit of the company to, after being sure all the customers are whole, make a charitable donation to a specific local area charitable cause in the amount stolen. “Kendall Dodge donates $51,000 to Miami based XXXXX, matching funds misappropriated by a former employee” Just a thought
