Ford Rebuffs Trump’s Claims About Factory In Mexico

October 28, 2015 0 Comments

Donald Trump made major news headlines this summer when a dealership used a Trump piñata for a commercial, however, Trump’s latest interest in automotive comes from his continued critique of Ford.

Donald Trump has used his platform as a much-publicized candidate for President of the Untied States to talk about among other things, Ford. Trump has been critical of Ford for their plan to build a $2.5 billion manufacturing plant in Mexico. Trump has stated that if elected, he plans to move more manufacturing back to the U.S., and has gone after Ford for their plan to build the factory in Mexico.

In recent days, Trump has indicated that Ford listened to him and is moving their plant to the U.S.A. He sourced a blog article from blog site prntly on Twitter to indicate that Ford had decided to change policy based on his campaign speech mentions of the Mexico Ford facility. However, not everyone agrees with the claims on the part of Trump.

A Washington Post report from October 26, included an official correspondence with Ford. Part of that article read, “Christin Tinsworth Baker, a spokeswoman for Ford, confirmed in an email to The Washington Post that, no, the company had not abandoned plans to build facilities in Mexico.” Another report also indicates Ford isn’t changing their plans to build in Mexico and that the automaker has been planning to move some manufacturing to Ohio since 2011.

In a report from the Detroit Free Press, a statement attributed to Ford indicated, “Ford has not spoken with Mr. Trump, nor have we made any changes to our plans. We decided to move the F-650 and F-750 medium-duty trucks to Ohio Assembly in 2011, long before any candidates announced their intention to run for U.S. president.”

What does Trump’s interest in Ford say about the importance of automakers to the U.S. economy? Finally, what do you think of Ford’s responses to the claims made by Donald Trump?
