Google+ Users Can Now Pin Posts To The Top Of Pages And Profiles

December 10, 2014 0 Comments

Google+ recently announced that users can now pin posts to the top of pages and profiles, seemingly playing catch-up to Facebook and Twitter where users are already used to having more control over how their content is displayed.

Facebook Pages have included this feature since 2012 and Twitter added it last April. Google+ is now catching up to its social media rivals by rolling out this new functionality, which is currently available on the desktop version and for Android users, with iOS support coming soon. Users can simply click on the drop-down menu in the upper-right hand corner of any of their public posts and select “Pin post” to add the post to the top of their pages and profiles.

“People often have posts that they want to make sure get seen when someone visits their profile, like a great nature shot from a recent family trip,” wrote Google+ Product Management Director, Dennis Troper, in a Google+ post. “Businesses also have content they want to highlight such as photos of a new product or a trailer from an upcoming movie.”

While it’s unclear whether or not this increased functionality will make Google+ a more popular platform, it will certainly help it catch up to Facebook and Twitter in this regard.

“Starting today, you can pin a post to the top of your profile or page,” wrote Troper. “When someone visits your page, they’ll see the pinned content first above the rest of your posts.”

The following example of a pinned post on the Brooklyn Nets’ page illustrates how these will be displayed on Google+:
