Tandem Steals $350k From Hyundai Store | DrivingSales News

Mother & Daughter Steal Over $350,000 From Hyundai Dealership

September 18, 2015 0 Comments

Two dealership employees, a mother and daughter, have been indicted in connection with stealing $350,000 from the Hyundai dealership where they used to work. Kathleen Young Todd and Audrey Gail Todd have been indicted one year after being fired for stealing from their place of employment. These two members of the Todd family reportedly stole at least $350,000 from Waco Hyundai in Waco, Texas.

Kathleen Todd had a lot of access to private information as the controller of the Hyundai store and her daughter Audrey was an office clerk. The Waco Tribune reports that Kathleen Todd was also actually seen taking money from the dealership cash drawer back in September 2014. Confronted about the theft, she reportedly admitted it and was promptly fired.

Using what KXXV called “a handful of schemes,” the two stole at least $350,000 over the course of six to seven years. A forensic audit stopped counting the losses for the store at $350,000. That audit also revealed Audrey Todd stole $158,987 from September 2009 to September 2014. Both women are believed to be responsible for stealing for a combined $132,472 in cash from the Waco dealership. Kathleen Todd also managed to steal $26,515 in vacation pay and accounts receivable money. KXXV reports the indictment took a while since the local district attorney reportedly wouldn’t indict the two women until after a forensic audit was completed.

It wasn’t until the controller of this store was seen literally with her hand in the cash drawer that she was confronted and fired. Dealers put a lot of trust in the hands of their administrative employees, including controllers. What does your store look for when hiring for this type of position? Have you ever had any trouble with employees stealing from your store?
