Hyundai Helps Child Relay Message To Father In Space

April 20, 2015 0 Comments

Work can be tough. Being away from loved ones can make it even tougher. However, some are further away than others. For example, Stephanie is a 13-year-old girl with a father who if often away on business. Except, he’s farther way than most anyone you know, you see, he’s in space. The teenager’s father works on the International Space Station. She wanted to send him a message, but she needed help. Stepping in to aid the girl in her mission was Hyundai.

The Japan-based automaker took the reins in helping Stephanie get a message to her father using a time-tested method. They wrote it in the sand. While this may seem head scratching, stick with it for a moment. Stephanie’s father is in orbit above the earth and can see things that others cannot; they just have to be large enough. Enter Hyundai with their full-fledged efforts.

Hyundai selected a place in Nevada and set the goal to write a message in the sand for Stephanie’s father to see. The location selected was Delamar Dry Lake, which is around two hours north of Las Vegas. Hyundai clearly assembled a huge team and went all-in on this project, which helped a child and allowed them to feature their new Genesis.

Hyundai transported 11 Genesis sedans to the site and outfitted them with studded tires to help them really get the message across. Using a combination of a preset route and in-car navigation, the vehicles drove over the desert terrain in synchronization as they recreated the message, “Steph loves you” in her handwriting. In the end, the message covered a reported two plus square miles and her father was able to see and photograph it from space. This is certainly an accomplishment for the automaker. They helped a young girl send a message to her Dad and frankly received some very positive press in the process. There is certainly a message there for dealers who are looking for a fresh approach to marketing.

What do you think of Hyundai’s move to help this child relay a message to a parent? What does this type of action do for the public image of this vehicle manufacturer and finally would you like to see more or less actions like this one on the part of automakers?
